The Scriptural Importance of Yahushua’s Name

Is calling the Messiah by his true name important? I have listed below some pretty strong statements. All of
these statements are backed up by scripture. Click on the statement to read the scriptures that back it up. These
Scriptures should be read in context to grasp the full meaning of the text. By the time you are finished reading each of these scriptures, there should be no doubt as to how important Yahushua’s name really is.

Our Saviour has a beautiful Name…Yahushua!! let’s look at the Name of Yahushua. It also consists of two parts: Yahu being the first syllable and shua being the second. Therefore the Name of Yahushua contains the Father’s Name (Yahueh/Yahweh). In Hebrew, the word “Shua” means “Saves. ” When we know this we can truly understand Mat 1:21, Joh 5:23, 14:26

Tetragrammaton Found in Earliest Copies of the Septuagint

Because of the detailed nature of the below graphics, they will take a while to load unless you are on a fast connection. Below are 2 examples of where the Tetragrammaton has been found in ancient copies of the Septuagint. The Septuagint is a 3rd to 2nd Century BCE Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures. The below fragments are evidence that the Septuagint originally contained the name Yahweh.

The first is an ancient fragment of the Septuagint dated between 50 BCE and 50 CE (AD). If this dating is correct, it would have been written near the time of Yahushua’s ministry. The name of these fragments are “Nahal Hever Minor Prophets” because they are fragments of Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah and Zechariah found in the Nahal Hever cave, south of Qumran. The Tetragrammaton is indicated with the large black arrow.

Notice that the Tetragrammaton is written in the ancient Hebrew (Paleo-Hebrew) script. Here is another example of an ancient fragment of the Septuagint dating to the First Century CE (AD). This fragment contains parts Job 42:

There are other early fragments that also contain the sacred name in like manner. According to scholars, no copies of the Septuagint dated before the mid-2nd century CE/AD substitutes the Tetragrammaton (Yahweh’s name) with “Kyrios” (the Greek word Lord).

Yahweh’s name in the Dead Sea Scrolls

This is a photo of Psalms 119:59-64 in the Dead Sea Scrolls which are a collection of Hebrew Scriptures that date back 2000 years. Note Yahweh’s name in the ancient Hebrew script while the rest of the text is in a more modern Hebrew that was used at the time. Also note that each line begins with the Hebrew letter “Heth” which corresponds with it’s part in the acrostical 119th psalm.

Compare this to the Masoretic Hebrew Text:

Now in English

Psalms 119:56-64
(NKJV)
59 I thought about my ways, And turned my feet to Your testimonies.
60 I made haste, and did not delay To keep Your commandments.
61 The cords of the wicked have bound me, [But] I have not forgotten Your law.
62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, Because of Your righteous judgments.
63 I [am] a companion of all who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts.
64 The earth, O , is full of Your mercy; Teach me Your statutes.

Who are Yahweh’s people?

They believe (have faith) in Yahushua

John 3:36 (NKJV) “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of Yahweh abides on him.”

Pretty simple isn’t it? Just believe and you have everlasting life! As many say, “All you need to do is believe!” But the question must be answered, “What does it mean to believe?”

John 5:45 (NKJV) “Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is [one] who accuses you–Moses, in whom you trust. 46 “For if you believed Moses , you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. 47 “But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?

Here, Yahushua is telling the Scribes and Pharisees that if they had believed Moses, then they would have understood that He was the Messiah. Sure, they believed that Moses existed and that he wrote all that he wrote. But did they understand what he said and put it into practice in their own lives? Clearly there is more to believing than recognition of that someone exists and what someone has done.

Jame 2:17 (NKJV) Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one Elohim. You do well. Even the demons believe –and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

So we can begin to see here that Yahweh’s people do indeed believe, but the evidence that shows that they DO believe is their works (The things they do) Now, what works are we talking about here? Continuing in James 2..

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed Yahweh, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of Yahweh. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

OBEDIENCE to Yahweh’s word is works. And at ANY COST! Abraham was ready to give up his son to obey the word of Yahweh. In the same way, Yahweh expects us to give up our own will and conform it to His will. Yahweh is love. He wants us to love Him and love other people. That is His word.

Matt 22:35 (NKJV) Then one of them, a lawyer, asked [Him] [a] [question], testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the law?” 37 Yahushua said to him, ” `You shall love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 “This is [the] first and great commandment . 39 “And [the] second [is] like it: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

So that is all we need now. Just to love Him and love our neighbor. That is what the law and prophets were all about anyway right? So that’s all we need now then right? Just remember those 2 commandments and that’s all we need to know, right? Well, yes as long as we are knowledgeable of HOW to love Yahweh and HOW to love our neighbor. That is what His commandments are about! We can’t truly claim to love Yahweh and love our neighbor unless we are keeping those commandments.

The Ten Commandments

Take a look at the ten commandments in Deuteronomy 5. Notice that the first four commandments deal with loving Yahweh. The last six deal with loving our neighbor although the commandment to honor our parents could possibly also apply to Yahweh, our Heavenly Father. Today, it seems that many believers do try to keep the commandments that have to do with loving our neighbor. Yahushua the Messiah often stressed these commandments in His teachings because they were often ignored by the religious leaders of that day.

Matt 23:23 (NKJV) “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier [matters] of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.”

Notice that Yahushua says “These you ought to have done”. But in this day and age, the majority of Christians ignore the first four commandments that have to do with loving Yahweh. Catholics make and bow down to idols. The vast majority of Christians are taking His name in vain without even realizing it. And the Sabbath? What Sabbath? It has been either changed or ignored. Sadly, people are only concerned about keeping the commandments that have to do with loving their neighbor. While this is a good thing to do, the most important thing that we need to be doing is loving Yahweh (without neglecting loving our neighbor of course). For this is the first and greatest commandment according to Yahushua. Part of loving Yahweh is worshipping Him in the way HE desires us to. He says that He wants us to keep the Sabbath day holy and keep all His feast days and honor Him in our actions.

Many people would even be surprised to hear that Yahushua mentions Justice, mercy and faith as all part of Yahweh’s law! (verse 23 above) Today, the law has been branded harsh…and “a burden” and “bondage”. But these are the words of our Creator and His words are NOT bondage. They are freedom!!”

Psal 19:7 (NKJV) The law of Yahweh [is] perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of Yahweh [is] sure, making wise the simple;

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of Elohim, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

John 14:15 (NKJV) ” If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever– 17 “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you .

Luke 6:46 (NKJV) ” But why do you call Me `Master, Master,’ and do not do the things which I say? 47 “Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 “He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 “But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

The one whose house was built on the rock had obedience to Yahweh’s word as His foundation. The one whose house was built on sand had only acknowledged his word and did not act them out.

Now, there is more than just knowing and keeping the commandments. There are many out there who believe they are doing these things but it is all in pretense. A person that loves Yahweh and His neighbor will show this love in their personality and the overall “spirit” about them will be a spirit of love. Here are the fruits of the Spirit that are characteristic of Yahweh’s people:

Gala 5:22 (NKJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those [who] [are] Messiah’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

So this what Yahweh’s commandments are all about. Genuinely Love Yahweh show it by worshipping Him the way He wants us to. And Genuinely love others and show it by the things we do and the way we act.

Now lets look into some other characteristics of Yahweh’s people as a whole.

Yahweh’s people are small.

Not all small groups are Yahweh’s people, but Yahweh’s people ARE small.

Luke 13:23 Then one said to Him, “Master, are there few who are saved?” And He said to them, Luke 13:24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Luke 13:25 “When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, `Master, Master, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, `I do not know you, where you are from,’ Luke 13:26 “then you will begin to say, `We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ Luke 13:27 “But He will say, `I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.

Matt 7:21 (NKJV) ” Not everyone who says to Me, `Master, Master,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 “Many will say to Me in that day, `Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 “And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me , you who practice lawlessness!’

Matt 7:13 (NKJV) ” Enter by the narrow gate; for wide [is] the gate and broad [is] the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 “Because narrow [is] the gate and difficult [is] the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it .

“FIND IT”. If we must “find it” then we must be looking for it right? It isn’t going to just come along and pop up in our face and then we just say, “Oh, there it is! There is the narrow gate!” The narrow gate is the way of truth. A gate that few truly seek, let alone find.

Now here is the key:

It is so much easier to go where everyone else is going. But if you are on a path that everyone else is on, then how can you be on a path that
few find??? When in history has the majority ever been right? Where in scripture was the majority ever right before Yahweh? Once again, the narrow gate is a the way of truth. So how do we obtain truth??

Yahweh’s people are diligently seeking the truth

The eyes of our Creator seeks those whose heart is perfect toward Him

He is speaking Here to an unruly King:

2Ch 16:9 For the eyes of Yahweh run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of [them] whose heart [is] perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Even if there are some who have not yet been convicted on things that I have been convicted on such as keeping the Sabbath and using Yahweh’s name this does not mean that these other people are not Yahweh’s people! As we can see by this verse, Yahweh is looking for those whose HEART is perfect toward Him. Those who are walking according to the light and truth that He has shown them. For Yahweh does not see as man sees. Yahweh looks at the heart. But beware if you are just following your heart, for Yahweh says:

Jeremiah 17:9 ” The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

But what if we are blind to certain truths in His word? Yahushua, when speaking to the Pharisees said:

John 9:40-41 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?” Yahushua said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, `We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

So if a person is blind in an area that they have not been enlightened, they have no sin. But that person should beware if they claim to know all the truth and thereby say “I see”. In this case, their sin remains. It all has to do with a persons heart. One should be very careful about judging someone’s heart. Although the scripture says that “Out of the heart a man speaks” (whether it be evil or good) we still must beware and judge not according to appearance but judge righteous judgment. Still, it is better not to judge at all!

So how does one keep from being blind?

Matt 15:13 (NKJV) But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 “Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”

Stay away from blind leaders! We should never trust in a man for our salvation, or knowledge of how to achieve salvation. Scripture says:

Jere 17:5 (NKJV) Thus says Yahweh: Cursed [is] the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from Yahweh.

If a person is just sitting back and not seeking Him, then there is no excuse for this person for not seeking the truth. An important characteristic of Yahweh’s people is that they are continually seeking Yahweh’s ways. Yahweh does not want us to be “lukewarm”. Lets look at the example of the assembly in Laodicea:

Reve 3:14 (NKJV) ” And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ` These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of Yahweh: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 “So then, because you are lukewarm , and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 “Because you say, `I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’–and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked– 18 “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, [that] the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

Historically, this assembly of believers lived in a very rich city. Those living here were very wealthy. It is easy to understand why they were sitting back and being lukewarm. They weren’t really denying Yahweh but just not seeking Him and being on fire for Him. I imagine they felt that they had all their needs met. This is not unlike this nation (United States). Whether or not we realize it, we in this nation are very wealthy. Many poor in other 3rd world countries would consider OUR poor, “RICH!” It is very easy to forget Yahweh when things are going well. But in doing this we don’t realize we are “WRETCHED, MISERABLE, POOR, BLIND and NAKED!” So what are we to do?

  • Buy gold refined in fire: Yahweh tests us (puts us thru trials that we can overcome) and refines us as gold is refined making us a purer people.

  • Buy clothing: The robe of righteousness

  • Anoint eyes: Do not walk in blindness and in darkness , but according to the lighted path of truth. SEEK TRUTH! If we can’t see, how can we know if we are walking on the narrow path that only a few find?

If we refuse to do these things, He will spit us out of His mouth. In other words, separate us from His body, the true Assembly of Yahweh’s people that only Elohim knows.

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of Elohim stands, having this seal: “Yahweh knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Messiah depart from iniquity.”

Seeking truth is the key to finding it and walking in it. Here Yahweh is telling Jeremiah that if He can find ONE PERSON in Jerusalem that really seeks the truth, He will pardon the whole city!

Jer 5:1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be [any] that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

Here, Yahushua is speaking of the importance of knowing truth:

Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 Yahweh [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

The Spirit is what guides us into all truth:

Joh 14:17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Joh 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The path to truth will stop if we don’t obey the truth He has given us:

Ac 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and [so is] also the Holy Ghost, whom Yahweh hath given to them that obey him.

1Pe 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently

Those that ignore His ways will never find Him, though they seek:

Pr 1:22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. 24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; THEY SHALL SEEK ME EARLY, BUT THEY SHALL NOT FIND ME: 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Yahweh: 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

Pr 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

So, in summary we can see that Yahweh’s people are a small remnant of people that are obviously scattered throughout the earth. What matters is the heart. Are we ignoring Him or seeking Him? Are we obeying Him according to the light shown them or disobeying the light shown? People in this day and age are not going to have many excuses on Judgment Day. The scriptures are there for all of us to read and seek. And if we obey what we find, the Spirit of truth will come and reveal more truth to us. In this, we love the Father and do not have pleasure in unrighteousness.

2The 2:7 (NKJV) For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains [will] [do] [so] until He is taken out of the way. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains [will] [do] [so] until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Master will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the [lawless] [one] is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason Elohim will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie , 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness

Having pleasure in unrighteousness is the same as not obeying the truth He has given us.

Importance of 7th Day Sabbath

Observance among believers

Yahweh considered the Sabbath so important, so necessary for His children, that He kept it Himself. In fact, the crowning achievement in His creation of the vast universe–the last act He performed–was to bless, sanctify and rest on the seventh day:

Genesis 2:2 – And on the seventh day Elohim ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then Elohim blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which Elohim had created and made

Exodus 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

The Sabbath was important enough to be included in the Ten Commandments. Yet, out of the Ten, most believe in ignoring the one commandment which tell us to “Remember” it.

How should we keep the Sabbath?

Commentary on Bible Prefaces

Before we begin it must be understood that our English bibles are not the original language in which scriptures were written. I sometimes talk to people who don’t understand this very basic principle, but it is totally true. The King James Version was the first major translation into English and was created approximately 1600 years after Yahushua the Messiah came to earth.

Most all translations in various languages have chosen to replace the name “Yahweh” with another title or name of their choice, usually "the LORD" or "GOD" in all capital letters. The following is a commentary on the various prefaces and introductions which explain their reasoning for removing the Heavenly Father’s name from English bibles. Let’s start with the ever popular NIV…

New International Version – Preface

“In regard to the divine name YHWH, commonly referred to as the Tetragrammaton, the translators adopted the device used in most English versions…

This statement runs true in the majority of modern English translations. The primary reasoning for replacing the name of Yahweh with something else is ‘tradition’. In other words, “As long as everyone else does it, it must be okay”.

..of rendering that name as “LORD” in capital letters to distinguish it from adonai, another Hebrew word rendered “Lord” for which small letters are used.

We can see already that replacing the name “Yahweh” with “The LORD" presents a major problem. What do they do when there is a legitimate use of the title "Lord/Master" in the original text? It might be confusing to the reader as to whether it is speaking of a human lord/master or Yahweh.

So what to do? Their solution is to make the “Adonai” source in small letters and where the name of Yahweh exists, they’ll put capital letters! In other words, if it reads "Adonai (lord/master)" In the original they will translate it as "lord" or "Lord". But if it says "Yahweh" in the original, they will render it as "LORD" in all capital letters. I doubt that half the people who read the scriptures even realizes they are doing this.

Wherever the two names stand together in the Old Testament as a compound name for God, they are rendered “Sovereign LORD.””

Now we see that a more complicated problem arises. There are instances in scripture that the Hebrew reads "Adonai Yahweh" or "Lord/Master Yahweh". If they were to put "Lord" where Yahweh exists in the original, they would have to translate the passage as "Lord the LORD"! So they translated it as "Sovereign LORD" to avoid confusion. Amazing what people will do to serve tradition and reject what Yahweh has placed in
scripture!

Today’s English Version – Preface

Following an ancient tradition,

Again, tradition is the reason.

begun by the first translation of the Hebrew Scriptures (the Septuagint) and followed by the vast majority of English translations, the distinctive Hebrew name for God (usually transliterated Jehovah or Yahweh), is in this translation represented by “LORD.” When Adonai, normally translated “Lord,” occurs preposed to Yahweh, the combination is rendered by the phrase “Sovereign LORD.”

So the “Today’s English Version” uses the same renderings as the NIV. All on the basis of following the others.

Revised English Bible – Introduction to the Old Testament

The divine name (YHWH in Hebrew characters) was probably pronounced ‘Yahweh’,

One excuse some use for not keeping Yahweh’s name in the text is that they aren’t sure His name is really pronounced “Yahweh”. But if a translator ever admitted that His name was definitely pronounced ‘Yahweh’ I’m sure they would have to answer for why they don’t translate it as such. Not much motivation for seeking the truth? Maybe they really don’t want to know that His name really is pronounced “Yahweh”?

but the name was regarded as ineffable, too sacred to be pronounced.

Yes, this was the doctrine that got this whole idea started. But Yahweh says:

Jere 10:25a  Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name..

and…

Joel 2:32a  And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the YAHWEH shall be delivered..

How can anyone call on His name if it is hidden away by superstitious doctrines?

The Massoretes, therefore, wrote in the vowel signs of the alternative words adonai (‘Lord’) or elohim (‘God’) to warn readers to use one of these in its place.

The Massoretes were who copied and preserved the Hebrew scriptures from scroll to scroll down through the ages. They added ‘vowel signs/pointings’ to the Hebrew text (which was primarily all consonants) so the language would be preserved. But when they came to the name of Yahweh, they inserted alternative vowel pointings so that the reader would not speak the name of Yahweh but say “adonai” (lord) instead. So we can see that through the ages, there has been a conspiracy to hide the name of Yahweh Almighty despite what Yahweh says in His word about how we should praise, exalt, bless, love, teach, preach, anoint, assemble, believe, give thanks, honor and call on His name.

Where the divine name occurs in the Hebrew text, this has been signalled in The Revised English Bible by using capital letters for ‘LORD’ or ‘GOD’, a widely accepted practice.

Since it is ‘widely accepted’, it must be truth and acceptable to do? Not according to Yahushua! He said the way to life is a narrow way.

Matt 7:14 (NKJV) “Because narrow [is] the gate and difficult [is] the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

American Standard Version – Preface

“I. The change first proposed in the Appendix — that which substitutes “Jehovah” for “LORD” and “GOD” (printed in small capitals) — is one which will be unwelcome by many, because of the frequency and familiarity of the terms displaced. But the American Revisers, after a careful consideration, were brought to the unanimous conviction that a Jewish superstition, which regarded the Divine Name as too sacred to be uttered, ought no longer to dominate in the English or any other version of the Old Testament, as it fortunately does not in the numerous versions made by modern missionaries.

Now with some reservation I would almost have to admire those who translated the American Standard 1901 version. They at least tried to restore some truth (even though they knew it would be unwelcome) and reject the ridiculous tradition of hiding and substituting the name of Yahweh from the common reader. But then as we read on…

This Memorial Name, explained in Ex. iii. 14,15 and emphasized as such over and over in the original text of the Old Testament, designates God as the Personal God, as the covenant God, the God of Revelation, the Deliverer, the Friend of his people; — not merely the abstractly “Eternal One” of many French translations, but the ever living Helper of those who are in trouble. This personal name, with its wealth of sacred associations, is now restored to the place in the sacred text to which it has an unquestionable claim.”

Sounds great so far! They can see that the scriptures do place importance on His name…over and over and over… But if you read the translation you will see that they insert the false “Jehovah” rendering that was used a total of 4 times in the King James Version! But most every scholar knows that “Jehovah” is a falsification of Yahweh’s name! Click here for more information on this!

Revised Standard Version – Preface

Now here is the preface that really bothers me the most.

A major departure from the practice of the American Standard Version is the rendering of the Divine Name, the “Tetragrammaton.

The Revised Standard Version translators have chosen not only to depart from the practice of the ASV translators but to berate them as well. It is in one way justified in that the ASV chose the name “Jehovah” instead of “Yahweh”.

The American Standard Version used the term “Jehovah”; the King James Version had employed this in four places, but everywhere else, except in three cases where it was employed as part of a proper name, used the English word LORD (or in certain cases GOD) printed in capitals. The present revision returns to the procedure of the King James Version, which follows the precedent of the ancient Greek and Latin translators and the long established practice in the reading of the Hebrew scriptures in the synagogue.

So here we go with this ‘long standing tradition’ routine again. I’m not sure why they cannot see where Yahushua told the scribes and Pharisees on various occasions:

Mark 7:9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of Yahweh, that you may keep your tradition.

While it is almost if not quite certain that the Name was originally pronounced “Yahweh”,

Again, they wouldn’t dare admit that they are totally certain. However it is totally certain that His name is not pronounced “The Lord”.

(While it is almost if not quite certain that the Name was originally pronounced “Yahweh”,)..this pronunciation was not indicated when the Masoretes added vowel signs to the consonantal Hebrew text.

Of course not, they favored tradition over commandments!

To the four consonants YHWH of the Name, which had come to be regarded as too sacred to be pronounced, they attached vowel signs indicating that in its place should be read the Hebrew word Adonai meaning “Lord” (or Elohim meaning “God”). The ancient Greek translators substituted the word Kyrios (Lord) for the Name. The Vulgate likewise used the Latin word Dominus. The form “Jehovah” is of late medieval origin; it is a combination of the consonants of the Divine Name and the vowels attached to it by the Masoretes but belonging to an entirely different word. The sound of Y is represented by J and the sound of W by V, as in Latin.

They even share how this idea of substituting His name got started. It amazes me that some will follow the Jewish tradition that breaks the commandment of Yahweh but they’ll ignore the Jew’s examples of where they actually do keep the Torah/Law of Yahweh!

For two reasons the Committee has returned to the more familiar usage of the King James Version: (1) the word “Jehovah” does not accurately present any form of the Name ever used in Hebrew; and

Ahh! Notice how they conveniently forget to mention why they reject the name “Yahweh” in their ‘reasons’!

(2) the use of any proper name for the one and only God, as though there were other gods from whom He had to be distinguished, was discontinued in Judaism before the Christian era and is entirely inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church.

Who are they to decide what is appropriate for one’s faith?? Their job is to translate, not decide what we are to believe! This statement is a sad commentary of how far some have gone from the scriptures. Not only do they say why they have chosen to replace Yahweh’s name with a title of their choosing but they also state that ‘use of any proper name…is entirely inappropriate!’ Amazing! Who invented the idea of having a name of our Creator? Is it not Yahweh Himself?? Is Yahweh also ‘entirely inappropriate’ for placing His name there in scripture over 6000 times?? Are they saying indeed that the one whom they claim to worship is ‘entirely inappropriate’ for placing His name there? Oh my! They say it is ‘entirely inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church.’ Why have a different substitution for the name “Yahweh” in each language? Would it not be more ‘universal’ to use ONE NAME? Yahweh has said:

Mala 1:11a (NKJV) For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles..

Why have they falsified our Creator’s name and condemned Yahweh for putting it there originally? It is just sad.

New King James Version – Word study on Exodus 3:15 (New Open Bible)

Now I do like this word study. Even though the NKJV translators followed the traditions of the elders and forsook the idea of keeping Yahweh’s name in the text, whoever wrote this word study is very frank about what actually is taking place.

Exodus 3 records one of the greatest revelations in the Old Testament: the personal name of God. (The words translated God in our Bible [El, Elohim, Eloah] are not names, but the standard vocabulary for the Deity and even for false gods.

God told Moses His plan to use him in delivering the Israelites from Egyptian bondage, and Moses had asked whom He should tell the people had sent him. God answered Moses: “I AM WHO I AM.” He told Moses to tell them the “I AM” had sent him, “the LORD God.” “I AM” and “LORD” are both probably derived from the Hebrew verb to be (hayah) because God is the ever-present One, “the Eternal” (Moffatt translation).

Many people are puzzled that in this and many other (over six thousand!) passages some Bibles read LORD in all capitals (e.g., KJV, NKJV, NIV), some read “Jehovah” (ASV, DARBY), and some read “Yahweh” (Jerusalem Bible). Why such a radical difference? Do the manuscripts vary that much? No, not at all.

Because the name of God is so important—Jews devoutly refer to Him as “the Name” (ha Shem)—it is well worth exploring this revelation in some detail. It is merely a question of a Jewish tradition and how various Christian Scholars handle that tradition.

In the Ten Commandments, God forbids taking His name “in vain”. That is, we should not bear false witness in oaths and probably should avoid using profanity, as well. In their great fear of violating this command, devout Hebrews went beyond the law, and when they read the Hebrew Scriptures aloud they would read the word Lord (Adonai) whenever they saw the four letters (YHWH, or traditionally JHVH in Latin pronunciation) that spelled out God’s revealed covenant name. This was the sacred name by which He had committed Himself to Israel as a nation.

The most ancient copies of the Hebrew text were written in consonants only.

Actually there are some semi-vowels..as any good book on Hebrew grammar will tell you.

As the language became less and less used, scholars (call Masoretes) added little dots and dashes called “vowel points” to indicate how the text was to be pronounced. Oddly enough, they put the vowels that go with the word Adonai together with the sacred four letter name (called “tetragrammaton”) to guide the readers to say Adonai aloud in synagogue services.

Jehovah

This is the origin of the name “Jehovah.” It is actually a hybrid name, combining the vowels of Adonai with the consonants of YHWH into JeHoVaH or YeHoWaH (the “a” of Adonai is changed for reasons of Hebrew pronunciation). The people who produced this name were medieval Christian Hebrew Scholars; the Jews never acknowledged such a name. The defense of this Christian hybrid is the same as the defense of the Jewish avoidance of pronouncing the name—tradition!

No surprise there. (I didn’t add the “!”)

There are many lovely hymns and paraphrases of the Psalms that use this name, so it would be a loss to eliminate it from our Christian vocabulary.

Choose ‘what seems right to a man’ over the truth? (See the study on the name “Jehovah”)

The poetical form of Jehovah is Jah

Yahweh

It is very likely that the name was pronounced very much like “Yahweh.” Comparisons with transliterations of the name into other alphabets from very ancient times confirm this. The best argument for the spelling is that it is probably the historically accurate.

Thank you.

However, the RSV’s 1952 introduction explained its reason for rejecting “Yahweh” in the translation. It said that it lacks devotional qualities for English-speaking Christians. It is true that many names beginning with “Y” seem odd to our culture (all the names in English — including Jesus—were pronounced with a Y sound, in the original, as in “hallelu-Yah“).

Just totally amazing…

LORD

Most recent major English Bibles, dissatisfied with both Jehovah and Yahweh, have retained the KJV’s LORD (the 1901 text read Jehovah.)

Oh but Yahweh is certainly dissatisfied with THEM. They have failed to take in account something very important to HIM.

The following is a summary of the excuses that they have used for their refusing to insert the true name Yahweh.

  •  It’s used in most English versions
  • We’re following an ancient tradition
  • The word “Jehovah” does not accurately present any form of the Name ever used in Hebrew (What about “Yahweh”??)
  • Use of any proper name…is entirely inappropriate
  • It lacks devotional qualities

Amongst all these reasons, is there not something missing here?

YES, it is something that they have gone over painstakingly word for word! Something called THE WORD OF YAHWEH. Not once did they quote a scripture to back up their excuses!

We have heard the excuses, now let’s see what Yahweh’s word has to say about His name:

1Kings 18:24-AV And call ye on the name of your elohim, and I will call on the name of Yahweh: and the Elohim that answereth by fire, let him be Elohim. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

Now I would like to touch on something ironic here. If you haven’t read this story of Mt. Carmel, go to your scriptures and read it now or click here to read it. This is the prophet EliYah (Elijah) speaking these words. He said “call ye on the name of your elohim, and I will call on the name of Yahweh”. What was the name of their elohim? It is BAAL. What is amazing here is that Baal means “Lord” in Hebrew! Here is is Brown’s Driver/Briggs Lexicon on this Hebrew name of “Baal”.

01168 Ba`al {bah’-al}

the same as 01167; TWOT – 262a

AV – Baal 62, Baalim 18; 80

Baal = “lord”
n pr m
1) supreme male divinity of the Phoenicians or Canaanites
2) a Reubenite
3) the son of Jehiel and grandfather of Saul
n pr loc
4) a town of Simeon, probably identical to Baalath-beer

There is your proof. What is sad is that the translators RETAINED the name of the idol Baal but REJECTED the name of the true Mighty One of the Scriptures!

Continuing with our scriptures…Yahweh said:

Isai 42:8 I am YAHWEH, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.

Mala 2:2  If you will not hear, And if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name,” Says YAHWEH of hosts, “I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take it to heart.

Psal 105:1 Oh, give thanks to YAHWEH! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!

Psalms 116:17- I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of YAHWEH.

Isai 12:4  And in that day you will say: “Praise YAHWEH, call upon His name; Declare His deeds among the peoples, Make mention that His name is exalted.

Zechariah 13:9- And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It [is] my people: and they shall say, Yahweh is my Elohim.

This is only a small sampling of the hundreds of scriptures that tell us of the importance of His name. I invite you to consider these others by clicking here.

In conclusion it is very evident that Yahweh’s name is important to Him but it apparently was not important to those who have translated His word into the English language. Therefore we must make every effort when we see His name substituted in our scriptures to restore them back as we read them. We cannot change what has already been done but we can zealously return to the faith which was once delivered to the saints.

Fundamentals of Truth

To distinguish between truth and lie the fundamental differences between the two must be known. Many who think they know the truth do not know its characteristics, making them vulnerable to deception. The following section derives the characteristics of the truth from a most simple form of truth: The following simple statement is true:

1 + 1 = 2

The following statement isfalse:

1 + 1 = 3

If someone said that 1 + 1 = 3 he is a liar. If someone said that 1 + 1 = 2 he is speaking the truth.

From this simple form of truth it can be seen that the truth is logical, and the lie is illogical. If you have one apple and you get another to be with it, you have two. The truth is therefore reasonable, because it is through logical reasoning that it is known that 1 + 1 = 2. If someone would say that you now have three apples it would be unreasonable. The lie is therefore unreasonable.

The truth is rational, it is through rational thinking that it is known that 1 + 1 =2. The lie is irrational. One must be irrational to conclude that 1 + 1 =3 or any other number than 2. The truth is orderly. It is through logical, rational and orderly thinking that it is known that 1 + 1 = 2. The lie is chaotic. It is through irrational, illogical and chaotic thinking that one could conclude that 1 + 1 = 3 or any other number than 2. The truth is not mystical. It is not by any mystery that 1 + 1 = 2, it is clear as daylight. The lie is mystical. The truth about a matter may be mysterious while it is not revealed, but as soon as the truth is revealed the mystery is known and it is not a mystery anymore. The lie is mysterious and must stay so or else it vanishes into nothing. When the lie is exposed it vaporizes. When the truth is exposed it remains. The truth is therefore strongand eternal. The lie is weak and has temporary existence. The number of beans under a cloth is a mystery to those who have not seen the number of beans. So the truth about the matter is a mystery to them. There may be someone who says that the number is 5 and another who says that the number is 6. When the cloth is removed and the true number of 6 is revealed, the truth remains that it is 6 beans, but the lie vanishes. Lies must stay concealed to survive, but the truth remains always even when exposed. The truth does therefore not rely on mystery to exist like the lie must.

The truth is singular. There is only one true number of beans under the cloth. Out of all the numbers one could guess from, only one number is true. Therefore there are many lies and only one truth. There is only one truth about any matter. Here follows another example of the singularity of the truth: My current car is an Opel, this statement is true. It is no other make. This also demonstrates that the truth is singular. If I stated that my car is any of the many other makes, I would lie. The lie is therefore many-fold, because there are many lies for each truth. There are as many lies as there are numbers or car makes in these cases.

The truth is absolute and can not be compromised. If the make of a car is Opel and one person says it is Toyota and another says it is Honda , the car remains an Opel. The truth can not be voted on. If the majority would vote the car to be a Toyota it remains an Opel. One could also not reach a compromise with the lie and the truth to make the Car a Toyopel.

The lie changes due to relativity and is therefore relative, because the lie seems like the truth to some observer when his perception is distorted. Some would say it is the truth which is relative, but the truth remains the same, it can not change because of some persons distorted perception. Some person may perceive the truth not to be, but it remains. If one person counts the number of apples wrong it does not mean that the true number is now the number he perceived. To him the lie seems like the truth. The true number remains and so does the true make of a car. The lie changes relative to point of view, but the truth is stable – a universal constant.

Those who are against the truth can bury the truth, like evidence perhaps, hide it or disguise it, but it comes out sooner or later. The truth is therefore eternal. The lie is destroyed when the truth comes out. The lie is therefore destructible and temporary. The truth is reality. The lie is like a dream.

The truth is like a rock the lie is like a vapor. When the rock moves through the vapor the vapor must give way. Reality overpowers the dream. Rock symbolizes truth, because it is indestructible-like and solid. Rock is symbol of eternity, might and power. The truth is also symbolized by water, because water washes clean like the truth washes clean of lies. The lies are destroyed by it. The truth is symbolized by white light, the lie is symbolized by darkness. Light removes darkness . The truth is symbolized by fire, because fire burns up the lie and those willingly embracing it.

To summarize the characteristics of the truth:

The truth is: Logical, reasonable, rational, orderly, not mystical, singular, absolute, strong, eternal and reality.

The truth is symbolized by: Rock, water, light and fire.

A construction based on lies, by having faults in its foundation, will fall apart sooner or later, because the math is incorrect. It will not take the stresses put on it. Such a structure is ill, illogically made – incorrect math. A person who has his mental structure based on lies, and is therefore a liar, is short-lived. His mind is temporary just like the lie and a structure based on lies, it will fall apart under stress. A person who has his mind completely based on the truth ,and his mental structure is based on truth ,is immortal just like the truth. Only if he really loves the characteristics of the truth and lives by the truth as part of himself.

Believing Truth Rather than a Lie

Since the truth is reasonable and logical, it is also that which makes sense. The truth about a matter is that which holds under all conditions of inspection, examination and cross-examination, it must fit in with the real evidential facts. Which are facts and which are not facts must first be established. Something can only be true if it is known to have the characteristics of truth. The truth has a comforting effect if you are with it. The truth brings a feeling of freedom from the lie.

To believe something in a rational way, evidence and witness testimony is needed. Then reasoning using the evidence and witness testimony must occur. True evidence, real facts, and good character witness is needed to believe the truth. False evidence, false facts, and bad character witness could lead to believing a lie. To believe anything without logical reasoning and considering evidence, is diseased. To believe something without solid basis is ill. Faith is defined as: believing something without having directly seen it. This definition comes from an ancient source of writing. It is not defined as believing something without evidence and logical reasoning:

It is in Greek with the English word for each Greek word below the Greek word. A comprehensive translation of that text reads like this:

This is faith: to hope for things which is still to come, to believe things you have not seen, because they are proved.

If someone tells you that a Car accident occurred a couple of blocks from your current location, do you believe him ? You have not seen the accident, but you may believe the witness if his character is good. If he is known to never tell a lie you may believe him. If you keep in mind the definition of faith, you will see that everyone applies it in their lives, since everyone believes things they have not seen. (Even if it is just believing that the planet Pluto exists. You may believe due to some pictures and reasoning or because of someone saying it exists, but you have not directly seen Pluto. ) If you have reason to doubt that the witness is telling the truth, you may consider evidence such as skid marks and wreckage parts at the accident site. In the end you may believe that an accident occurred even though you have not seen it, then you believe by faith. Lots of people define faith as believing something without proper basis. It is ill to believe something in such a manner.

The Greek quote previously made comes from Hebrews 11:1 of the well known Bible. Most of those saying they believe in the Bible don’t in fact know what faith is according to the Bible, neither do they know what the Bible teaches in general. No leaps of faith must be made to believe something. Faith is to believe something without having directly seen it, but most certainly not to believe without seeing evidence and/or hearing a good character witness testimony. And using healthy reasoning. To believe something without a realistic approach using healthy reasoning and evidence could lead to believing a lie. The truth is not mystical, it is clear and understandable. The truth is only a mystery while not known. The lie is mystical. True faith is also without doubt. Broken faith is with doubt. Faith and doubt are opposites. Faith and doubt contradict each other and does not go together. True faith is as solid as believing that the sun exists or that you exist. To really believe something is to believe it without doubt, because it is proved to you. To find truth you must know the fundamental characteristics of the truth. Then you can inspect something to see if it has those characteristics.

John 8:32:And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
